The Hazel Ruby McQuain Birth Center

Mon General Hospital's state-of-the-art Birth Center opened in August 1999.

Located on the 5th Floor of the hospital, The Birth Center has eight birthing suites, three ante-partum rooms for testing and medical management prior to delivery, two breast-pump rooms, a family waiting room and the perinatal education office.

The birthing suites were developed with input from staff, physicians and, most importantly, past and present patients. Each suite has a home-like atmosphere, while providing the safety and concern that comes with a skilled team of physicians, nurses and support staff.

Each birthing suite is decorated in a contemporary style, with a bedroom-like atmosphere and hardwood floors. Wood cabinets and wall paintings, which hide medical supplies and equipment, add to the home-like décor. Half of the rooms are equipped with whirlpool tubs. Each suite also has a place for the father or another family member to stay the night if desired.

Under the Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum concept at The Birth Center, a woman having a routine labor and delivery remains in the same room throughout her entire stay with her newborn. However, there is a nursery for babies which require maximum care and to provide rest time for the mother.

Although the facilities and decor of the Birth Center are first class, our competent, caring obstetrical nurses are what make the Birth Center a very special place to have a baby.   Working with Drs. Hamilton, George, and Latif, and with certified nurse midwives Jan Thomas,  and Gail Rock, they can help make your birth experience meet or exceed your expectations.
